RASHTRIYA RIFLE ORGANISES INTER VILLAGE DISTRICT LEVEL VOLLEY BALL TOURNAMENT

MENDHAR:  In an effort to integrate the local youth with national mainstream and to promote the sport of Volley ball amongst the populace of Poonch Dist, residing in the far flung areas, a Rashtriya Rifle Battalion under the aegis of Counter Insurgency Force, Romeo organised a five day inter village district level Volley ball tournament at Mendhar.

The event saw overwhelming response in which teams from Mendhar, Jugal, Chatral, Pathanateer, Dabrai, Harni, Surankote and Daraba participated. These teams had earlier beaten the local teams in Volley ball matches conducted by respective Rashtriya Rifle Battalion in their area of responsibility. 
 
All the teams exhibited great enthusiasm and competitive spirit. The final match was played between teams from Surankote and Harni on 23 March 12. The final match was witnessed by supporters of both the teams, in which team from Surankote was the deserving winner. Both the teams on their part put up a fine display of sportsmanship and discipline.

The occasion was graced by village heads, sarpanchs and panches of the villages including local populace who witnessed the keenly contested final. Mr. Ranjeet Singh, SDM, Mendhar distributed prizes to the winner and runner up team members. While speaking to media he told that sports play an important role in shaping the personality of youth and serve as health elixir for youth and nurture them both mentally and physically. 
 
Villages have vast potential in every sport and there is a need to channelize the sports talent by proper training support and facilities.  The team members expressed gratitude to the armed forces for conducting such tournaments, which gave them opportunity to showcase their talents and foster friendship spirit among their other colleagues.
