ARMY COMMANDER PAYS HOMAGE TO BRAVE SOLDIERS KILLED IN AVALANCHE



SRINAGAR: GOC-in-C, Northern Command, Lt Gen KT Parnaik, arrived on a day’s visit to the Valley.  On arrival, the Army Commander was received by Lt Gen SA Hasnain, GOC Chinar Corps who briefed him on the damages and unfortunate loss of lives in the recent avalanches as well as the rescue effort underway.  The Army Commander attended the wreath laying ceremony for the 13 brave soldiers who lost their lives in the avalanche at Dawar (Gurez).  

The Army Cdr also interacted with the print and electronic Media and expressed his deep condolences to the families of the brave soldiers who have laid down their life in the service of the Nation and assured them that in their hours of grief, all assistance shall be provided to them.  He also appreciated the rescue efforts launched by the Army and thanked the Chief Minister and the Civil Administration for all the assistance provided by them. 

The Army Commander also informed the Media about the extensive damage to the LC fence and other infrastructure and assured that the efforts to repairs and rebuild these facilities will commence once the snow recedes. His plans to visit the affected areas and meet the troops stationed there could not materialize due to adverse weather conditions.  The Army Commander left for Udhampur in the evening.
