SRINAGAR: The
Chinar Corps conceptulised a Mega Cricket Event in the Kashmir Valley during
the summer of 2011 which was translated as ‘KPL- Chinar Cup-2011’. The singular aim of this Cricket tournament
was to positively involve the youth of the valley and enhance their existing
cricketing standards.
This was organised
under the Indian Army’s Sadhbhavana program in conjunction with the J&K
State Cricket Board and the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs. The Phase-I of the tournament was conducted
at district level wherein, 193 teams participated in over 300 matches. In Phase-2, a total of 14 teams represented
all Districts and played 50 matches. The
initiative received the fullest support of Jenab Omar Abdullah, Hon’ble Chief
Minister, Jenab Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister and Jenab RS Chib, Hon’ble
Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs.
To honour the commitment of the
Chinar Corps to the youth of the Valley and channelize their vigour and passion
in cricket, Lt Gen SA Hasnain, AVSM, SM, VSM**, GOC Chinar Corps once again
envisioned to send the top cricket teams of the Valley to select places in the
country. This will also give wide
exposure and a life time opportunity to the youth by playing Cricket with other
teams in the country.
The Chinar Corps
has now planned three National Integration cum Sports Tours as part of Indian
Army Sadhbhavana. Three Cricket teams
i.e Srinagar ‘Sher Dils’, Srinagar ‘Shah Jahans’, the winners & runners up
of KPL-2011 and the Sher-e-Kashmir
University Team are being sponsored to visit Kolkata, Chennai and Jamshedpur
respectively, to play exhibition matches with the Rotary Club and other
prominent teams of these cities.
The
Kolkata Tour will include a match at the famous Eden Garden. Each team
comprises of 14 players, one Manager and one Coach. The tours are being launched on 02 and 03 Jan
2012. At each location three to four matches
will be played. Clubbed with this the
players would also visit places of historical / educational / tourist interest
and various industrial complex. It would give the young players a glimpse of
the development in educational and industrial fields and career opportunities
available in the country. The players
are carrying Chinar Saplings as gifts to the cities they are visiting.
Considerable enthusiasm and
excitement was seen among the budding Cricket players of the Valley when the
tours were flagged off by Mr RS Chib, the Honourable Minister of Sports,
Culture & Youth Affairs (J&K) and Lt Gen SA Hasnain, AVSM, SM, VSM**,
GOC Chinar Corps on 02 Jan 2012 from Badami Bagh.
