World AIDS Day celebrated

JAMMU: A symposium and exhibition was organized at Raina Auditorium on 01 Dec 2011 to commemorate the celebration of World AIDS Day 2011. 
 
The aim of organizing the symposium and exhibition was to spread awareness about AIDS, mode of transmission of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and its prevention amongst the Army personnel and the families in the sector. A team of doctors from 150 General Hospital conducted the symposium. 
 
The event was graced by Deputy General Officer Commanding 25 Infantry Division, senior Officers, Army personnel and their families. More than 370 people attended the event. 
 
The symposium covered the following aspects– prevalence of HIV and AIDS in the world and India in particular, importance of celebrating World AIDS day, stages of HIV, modes of transmission of HIV, various methods of testing HIV, treatment and post-exposure prophylaxis, HIV risk and its prevention. 
 
The session highlighted various myths and misconceptions regarding the disease and also clarified the same. The theme for World AIDS Day 2011 – “Getting to Zero” was also explained. The programme had an overwhelming response and was well appreciated. 
 
The exhibition organized contained charts, banners, brochures and pamphlets containing vital information about HIV and AIDS. The exhibition was also a grand success and more than 370 people visited and benefitted from the same.
